Winter Solstice concert at Grand Inspired Gallery on Dec 21st pairing an exhibit of artisan lighting with music on the darkest day of the year.

Holiday and solstice inspired music arranged by Micah Behr for string quartet.

Doors open at 6:30, music begins at 7:00

Come early for a warm drink and a walk-through of the gallery.

One week ago we were wrapping up INTERPLAY and sea

One week ago we were wrapping up INTERPLAY and season four of the Stoughton Chamber Music Festival.

What a magnificent experience with wonderful people!

We began with a free preview concert at @grandinspired , performed two free children’s concert with Kay Elmsley Weeden (one at the Christ Lutheran Church), performed CYCLES twice at Chorus Public house, performed INTERPLAY at the Stoughton Opera House, and INTERPLAY mini at Simmering Barn.

The most vibrant, free, and intentional SCMF festival to date thanks to all those who participated, helped-out, donated, attended, and who have consistently supported our ever evolving festival.

We keep growing and learning. Thanks for being part of this fulfilling and meaningful project. Keep being curious.

BRAHMS. Does your heart swell when you listen to his music?
INTERPLAY is well underway and concerts take place this weekend.

This program features the Brahms Clarinet quintet on the first half and a collection of wild Hungarian folk inspired tunes arranged by Micah Behr on the 2nd half (yes— the big classical work at the beginning of the program so we soak in the beauty of it and then end with a party).

Brahms was influenced by some great Hungarian violinists during his lifetime and we can see why. Come find out for yourself.

Our vibrant Clarinetist Brad Cherwin has arrived f

Our vibrant Clarinetist Brad Cherwin has arrived for week two!!

Brad is a brilliant artist which comes through in the way that he plays the clarinet but also in the way that he programs and paints (He is responsible for the CYCLES art). He is an inspiration in so many ways. Brad has also been a tremendous help for SCMF, writing our grant applications for the last two years.

Brad will be performing the delicious Brahms clarinet quintet with us on Saturday at 7:30 (Stoughton Opera House) and Sunday at 3pm (simmering barn)

Hailed for his “technical prowess [and] perfect conveyance of…wit, humor, and effect” (Sarasota Herald-Tribune), clarinetist Brad Cherwin is one of “Toronto’s best young chamber musicians” (Bachtrack). His playing has been lauded as “astounding” and “a total success … as flexible in tone as possible” (Calgary Herald). Highlights of Cherwin’s most recent season include performances with Barbara Hannigan as an Equilibrium Young Artist at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, and a sold-out European recital debut at Hamburg’s Tonali Saal with Ema Nikolovska, Hagar Sharvit, and Daniel Gerzenberg. Cherwin will be returning to LAMP as an EQ Young Artist again in fall 2022. Cherwin is the co-founder, clarinetist, and graphic designer for Toronto’s West End Micro Music Festival. After a sold-out first season titled MOZART IS DEAD, the festival returns in 2022 with minMAX. With four programmes and some of Toronto’s boldest artistic voices, minMAX features exhilarating music by Julia Wolfe, Nahre Sol, Steve Reich, Eleanor Alberga, and many others. Cherwin is also the director of The Happenstancers, a Toronto-based ensemble that features “an obscene amount of talent” (The WholeNote). Their concerts have been praised as “superbly planned, with a rich banquet of textures and colours…Next time these people throw a recital, run, don’t walk” (Lydia Perovic, Definitely the Opera).

The Premiere of CYCLES last night was greeted by a full house….bigger than I expected 💕🤯

I’ve spent so much time telling people about CYCLES that it felt like such a release to finally show people…Finally take people through the experience. We felt heard.

I’m proud of this one.

We get to play it one more time tomorrow at 3pm at Chorus Public House.
